Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are responsible for:

  1. Extraction of teeth and impacted third molars.
  2. Anesthesia (IV Sedation and general anesthesia) for anxiety and pain control. Facilitates treatment of fearful and dental phobic patients.
  3. Facial reconstruction with dental implants, bone grafts and soft tissue grafts. Esthetic and reconstructive surgery for treatment of congenital deformities and trauma (facial fractures) patients.
  4. Treatment of head and neck infections.
  5. Surgical exposure of unerupted permanent teeth to help orthodontists bring teeth into the dental arch.
  6. Biopsy and treatment of head and neck tumors, cysts, and cancers.
  7. Clinical medicine and patient's physical assessment, interfacing with medical specialists to facilitate surgical care of medically compromised patients.
  8. Credentialed for hospital surgeries.
