Endodontists

An Endodontist is a dental specialist that treats diseases of the tissue (pulp) inside the teeth. The Endodontist completes two years of specialty training after graduation from dental school. Endodontic treatment consists of removing pulp tissue in the root canal that becomes damaged. After the pulp has been removed, the root canals are cleaned, shaped and filled to seal the canal space. Endodontists also have advanced education in a surgical procedure, commonly called apicoectomy, that may be performed when inflammation or infection persists in the bony area around the end of the tooth after a root canal procedure. Endodontists use their special training and experience to treat routine and complicated root canal problems to help preserve teeth.
